Evolve or Die.

In this day and age – at least in the Western World – you would be hard-pressed to find an individual who does not know at least the basic tenets of evolution.  Animals within species that possess beneficial traits for survival are more likely to survive and pass those same traits on to their offspring.  Conversely, animals that possess traits that are not beneficial to their survival will die off.  If an organism is completely unable to adapt to its environment, under the theory of Natural Selection, it will go extinct.

I believe that the human race is currently in a critical period where humans who continue to destroy our environment with no respect for other forms of Life will be removed by that environment much like our body removes a virus.  Those among us who are unable to practice compassion and care for fellow human beings, as well as all other forms of life, will eventually kill ourselves.  A wise man named Carl Sagan once said that an organism that is at war with itself cannot survive.  This is becoming clearer and clearer as the years go by.

We, humans, are destroying our home, the very thing that brought us into existence.  We are pulling the plug on ourselves.  We are contaminating the oceans that brought forth the first life, polluting the air that keeps us alive, chopping down forests that help counter pollution, fracturing the ground upon which we live, tinkering with nature by genetically modifying crops, and if all that weren’t bad enough, we are killing off mass amounts of both animals and human beings.  Nature is self-correcting, and the more out-of-touch with nature the human race becomes, the more likely it is that nature will force us to change our lives or give up our privilege to be alive.

The fate of the entire human race is resting on the shoulders of every person living right now.  If we don’t blast ourselves into oblivion through nuclear warfare, the planet will find a way to deal with us through natural means: earthquakes, weather changes, diseases and the like.

If we don’t make it publicly known that we – the human race, collectively – will no longer put up with the exploitation of plants, of animals, of land, and of people.. we can be sure that life as we know it will be destroyed.  If we continue on our current path, failing to evolve and realize the inherit importance and interdependence of All Life – both big and small – we will surely die.
